Hathway

It's just been a day since I installed the Hathway broadband connection, and I am already regretting it. I think I would have been better off with any wireless dongle or just my phone hotspot with unlimited pack instead of the crap which Hathway is selling.

First they advertised it as a FIBER plan and then install a Co-axial cable connection.

This was one of the red flags, but I let it slide. I thought a co-axial copper cable could handle 100mbps, so it's fine I guess. But the network speeds don't even reach the 50mbps mark any time I test it, whether it's middle of the night or early morning. When asked why was it advertised as a Fiber connection in the first place, the reps and the installation guy just mentioned they are updating the whole network within a month to fiber connections.

The router is crap too, some cheap material and the configuration software too seems generic with many bugs.

I struggled to change the router password and WLAN settings with countless meaningless errors. I never faced such issue with any other routers before.

Currently I am not completely without the internet, I am able to use it with about 15mbps averate speed but that's when I am paying for a 100mbps plan on a CO-AXIAL CABLE which was marketed as a FIBER PLAN!!! On top of this, they don't setup the connection with just a month of subscription, they will lock you in for 2 months for some slower plans and 3 months for others at least. So I am stuck with it, with no other options because the other ISPs have not even set up their network here.

Any attempt to try to set up other ISP connections will end up in Hathway reps calling you directly. I started the Airtel connection request, their associate asked me for the address and then out of nowhere Hathway reps calls me saying that there is no connectivity of Airtel/Jio/Tata in my area and only option is theirs.

I already had heard about the bad review of Hathway but unfortunately had to set it up as it was blocking me from work.

Plus I had a little hope that it would have improved since I last heard the bad reviews, but no Hathway is shameless as it was before, they don't care after you have paid the money, and I am pretty sure if I complain about the speeds now, they will just have some fancy excuse each time.

Never even think of Hathway as an option until its very desperate and not even mobile network is good enough. Or else try some other ISP with a good name or just by an unlimited plan on your Wi-Fi Dongle or Phone if you are in a good 4G coverage area.

Dear Manager/Officer-in-charge,

My broadband connection account number is 118747****. It has been inactive for about four months.

My efforts to reach out to the concerned officer in Hathway to surrender the router before I shifted my residence from Chennai to Coimbatore proved futile.

However, thereafter, I have since been asked for the desired surrender, several times by telephone calls, text messages and emails.

In my response I had always said that while I am most willing to do so, you could depute your technician to my former residence in Mehta Nagar-600029, when I come back to Chennai for a visit.

I am glad to inform you now that I am in Chennai for a couple of days. Can you please depute someone to collect the router, for which you have sent several reminders and made calls.
